ALTERED COUTURE 3 page spot!!!

Some of my work (2 altered, reclaimed pieces) managed to find it's way into the Altered Couture Magazine February 2010 issue!!!! I wrote the Listen up schoool girls article, altered the cardigan, and embellished it as well and also got a gallery spot with my out of dust embellished, reclaimed blouse! SO three pages total, I'm very excited! Somehow God keeps surprising me, opening up new doors, I never know what's going to happen, but He knows and I trust Him :)
The glory all belongs to God :) He gave me the hands to work and the mind to think, so it all goes to Him.
So anyways, that's my preaching for today, here it is!

What Once Was is definitely IN NOW!

The Featured seller of the week! www.WhatOnceWas.etsy.com ! What a wonderful store Lianne has! I browse through the items and feel like I'm slowly walking back through time. It's romantic and nostalgic with a bit of a modern edge. She uses vintage and new pieces to complete her jewelry and oh the character this jewelry has! Well, I will let her tell her story now... But first here is a sneak peak at her work!

Lianne's Brief Bio: Born July 6th
I'm a Registered Nurse working full time in a hospital in Indianapolis. Grew up in the city and am now living the peaceful life out in the country! I love primitive antiques, my house was built in 1896 and is filled with them! All functional, I might add! I love to work in my garden, curl up with a good book, make jewelry and play with my dogs! I'm drawn to anything that is old, worn, and well loved! Basically, I enjoy the simple things in life!

Gabrielle: Where do you get your inspiration from?
Lianne: My inspiration actually comes from the random pieces of jewelry, bits and baubles themselves! It may sound strange but they "tell" me how they should be used and with what they should be paired!

Gabrielle: Do you have a job outside of Etsy?
Lianne: I work full time as a Registered Nurse in a hospital in Indianapolis.

Gabrielle: How did you come into your profession?
Lianne: When I was a little girl, I always wanted to be a Veterinarian. I was accepted into Vet school, then one day during my senior year in High School-"I want to be a nurse" popped into my head. I had never even been in a hospital, never been around sick people, didn't know any nurses--so maybe it was a "calling"!

Gabrielle: Is this what you imagined you would be when you grew up? If not, what did you want to be when you were little?
Lianne: Answered above.

Gabrielle: What's your favorite snack/drink to keep you going during a long day?
Lianne: Coffee and Mountain Dew

Gabrielle: What is your favorite item in your shop?
Lianne: I don't really have a favorite--If I don't love what I'm making, then I don't make it.

Gabrielle: How did you get the idea for your favorite item?
Lianne: See Above.

Gabrielle: She loves all of them equally and it's easy to see why!

Gabrielle: If there was one place you could live, and money wasn't an option, where would it be?

Lianne: I'm completely happy right where I am! If I had to choose, maybe someplace where it's warm all the time! I hate cold weather.

Gabrielle: If you had a million dollars how would you spend it?
Lianne: I would probably keep enough so I wouldn't have to worry about money, and give the rest away to people who needed it!

Gabrielle: Do you believe in God? This can be a yes or no, or it can be a more elaborate answer, you can also choose not to answer it, if it is too personal.
Lianne: I believe that there is something or someone much greater than all of us! It is so evident in everything around us!

Gabrielle:
Do you feel like a part of you is visible in all of your work?
Lianne: Most definitely! I put my heart and soul into each piece of jewelry I create. Sometimes it takes me forever to make one piece, it has to be "just right"!

Gabrielle: Do you miss items when they sell?
Lianne: Not really--I'm always pleased when I sell something and know that someone else has fallen in love with something I've made! That's my goal, to create beautiful jewelry from antique and vintage bits and baubles, and keep the history of these things moving forward, hopefully to be passed on to the next generation.

Gabrielle: Where is your favorite place to shop on Etsy?

Lianne:
There are so many wonderful and talented people on Etsy, but I currently do most of my shopping in the Vintage and Antique section.

Gabrielle: A big thank you to Lianne for taking the time to do this interview! Now here are a few of my favorites from her shop!

I made a dress form!

Yes it's true, I hand sculpted a dress form, out of styrofoam! Where did I get a block of styrofoam you ask? Well my wonderful husband shapes kayaks out of styrofoam, then he fiberglasses them, tests them out in the water and then fiberglasses over the fiberglass and makes a mold to make other kayaks! So I basically did the same thing with a dress form. I shaped it and I will fiberglass it and then fiberglass over it to make a mold, to make many dress forms. Then I cover it in cotton batting to make it tackable or pin-able, and from there I cover it with any fabric you would like, I suggest cotton jersey. They are on sale at my store http://www.ikvothamashiach70.etsy.com/ ! SO you can have a completely handmade dress form, jewelry display or whatever you want to use it for! I can also custom shape you one in the specific sizes you want. They can also come with a stand, wooden or plastic, for an extra $30!
